CHILDREN & TEENS
EMPOWERING OUR CHILDREN TO FACE THIER FEARS ALLOWS THEM TO GROW INTO CONFIDENT AND CAPABLE INDIVIDUALS.
We have warm, compassionate, and highly-skilled child therapists who are dedicated to supporting children of all ages and their caregivers through various life experiences that have resulted in depression, trauma, and anxiety.

Just like adults, children can experience a wide range of emotions when faced with distressing or traumatic events. However, they often lack the emotional and cognitive skills to understand, articulate, and cope with these experiences. If children are left to process these painful events on their own, it can negatively impact their social-emotional development and their perceptions of themselves, others, and the world.

Due to legal requirements for our child intake process, all new appointments for children or teens (18 and under) must be scheduled directly with our administrative team by phone, email, or through our website's contact page. Please note that children 13 and older have the right to confidentiality.

TRAUMA FOCUSED CONGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT, or Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is an evidence-based approach to assist children and adolescents in trauma recovery. The therapy involves both the child and their caregiver(s) and is typically conducted over 8-25 sessions. It focuses on reducing emotional, behavioral, and cognitive symptoms related to trauma, including those resembling PTSD, even if PTSD is not formally diagnosed. TF-CBT also strengthens the caregiver-child relationship, eases the caregiver’s trauma-related stress, and educates on beneficial parenting strategies.

FAMILIY THERAPY

Family therapy effectively improves family dynamics and reduces anxiety and depression in children and adolescents (Carr, 2014). It involves working with the whole family to enhance communication, resolve conflicts, and build supportive relationships. This approach helps families develop healthier interaction patterns, problem-solving skills, and mutual understanding. Children and teens often show better emotional regulation, academic performance, and peer relationships as a result (Liddle, 2010).

PLAY THERAPY

Research indicates that play therapy can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in children under 12, contributing to their overall emotional well-being (Bratton et al., 2005). Play therapy involves a dynamic relationship between the child and the therapist, utilizing carefully chosen play materials to create a safe environment for the child to express and explore their thoughts, emotions, experiences, and behaviors. This therapeutic approach helps children take responsibility for their actions, develop problem-solving skills, foster respect and acceptance of others, express their emotions, build empathy, enhance social skills, and boost self-confidence. It is commonly used for children aged 12 and under. Children who engage in play therapy exhibit improved academic performance and better peer relationships (Ray et al., 2015), empowering them to navigate their emotions and develop essential life skills
